Centrally situated within West Kowloon Cultural District, M+ opened to fanfare in 2021 after much anticipation. And it has not disappointed. The building\u2019s sleek and minimal architecture comes courtesy of 2001 Pritzker Prize laureates Herzog & de Meuron. The Swiss duo conceived of a wafer thin tower oriented towards Victoria Harbour stacked above a podium, both clad in dark green terracotta tiles to resemble bamboo. At night, the tower morphs into a giant TV screen featuring digital art to anchor the district with an ever-changing light show. Inside, concrete dominates the sweeping monochromatic austerity of the generous lobby\u2014an intentional blank canvas for outstanding contemporary collections. The main entry greets visitors with oversized pendant lamps that reference the city\u2019s wet market stalls. Materials at M+ all speak for the dichotomy that is Hong Kong: traditions seamlessly blended with modernity.<\/p>

The carefully curated exhibitions at M+ have been helmed since 2016 by Sri Lanka-born Australian Suhanya Raffel, Museum Director and Chevalier in the Order des Arts et des Lettres. With her guidance, the museum\u2019s direction of showcasing outstanding Asian artists and creatives continue to push boundaries. Popular recent exhibitions include the pop art prowess of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama in 2023; the enigmatic style of late Chinese fashionista Song Huai-Kuei AKA Madame Song in 2023-24; and the life and works of the late Chinese American architect I. M. Pei in 2024.<\/p>

For an even more memorable experience at M+, an array of social venues includes the M+ Lounge designed by local architect William Lim. Situated on Level 11, its stunning panorama of Victoria Harbour is complemented by the private collection of its architect\u2014an avid collector of Hong Kong art.
